MUENCH SAID I DID NOT    HAVE TO DO A FILM!

In the 2016 highly awarded film La La Land, amazing scenes are not hard to come by. But the opening scene in particular stands out with its seeming to be a one flowing shot that includes dancing, singing, and a great view. The entire scene lasts for four minutes and thirty eight seconds, it seems to be one shot but fast whips with the camera are when the scene cuts. Pre Production was a huge role in shooting this scene, all of the dancers practiced this entire scene with the director shooting on a iPhone in a parking lot days before. For this scene they shut down an entire ramp in Hollywood. The day of the dress rehearsal they came across many unexpected problems, it was the 2 hottest days of the year, the ramp was on an unexpected slant so dancing and the movement of cameras was very thrown off. Hundreds of cast and Crew were on set, manning cars, cameras, and some having simple jobs like pulling up truck doors behind the scenes so it looks natural. They realized that this camera movement could not be done on a stabilizer, it was a crane used operation because it was able to move over cars and between all the action. For this shoot they had one day of practice on the ramp, and two days to shoot. The set for this scene is amazing, the bright cloths and cars make the scene pop. For the scene timing was a huge issue, everything had to be perfectly on time with the song. In the Behind the scene you can hear someone counting for all the dancers to stay on time. This scene to open is flawless and with it bright colors, flowing shot, and eye catching dancing sets up the mood for the film perfectly.
